Used To Be

Used To Be
A Paul

This used to be my home
The place my sanity remained
Where I would go when all else failed
Where I was always unafraid
This used t be my sanity
Where no one and nothing could get me
Here and nowhere else was I safe
Here… I was understood
But the years have a way of changing you
And time can do it too
The comfortable now feels unfamiliar
And the warmth is lost through aged windows
All too soon I felt like a stranger
Alone in someone else’s room
Looking in on a life that no longer I was a part of it
Today I was reborn
Today my life is changed
As the last wall falls
As my hammer cracks the last window
Free my heart from all the strings
That have tangled my life’s direction
One by one I cut them loose
I am now bound by nothing
As if right on cue the rain drips down
Washing away decades of loss, guilt and pain
I drop the hammer with a clang to the ground
My heart soaring
And my new home found

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
