That dang string

Topic: HumorPoetry

Ever wear a sweater where you notice a string poking out of it?
Staring at that string, does the urge to pull it come over you?
Do you hesitate knowing pulling that string may result in nothing?
Or it could ultimately lead to that sweaters demise.
You go about your day, trying to ignore that destructive force.
Eventually the pull becomes too much
With held breath, that string you give a tug
With a sigh of relief, the string fails to even budge
You do your best to tuck it out of sight and out of mind
Yet still you find yourself drawn back to it
Your eyes drifting down, your hand hovering near
Its just a string you say, go ahead pull it, throw it away
That string beckons to you, you just can’t resist
With a sigh of defeat, you grasp that string firmly
You know once its gone, temptation will cease to exist
With a firm tug, that string begins to unravel
That sting that once was so little, now as started a chain reaction
You cannot let it go
It must end somewhere
Pull and pull you do
Now completely focused, with new determination
You vow to rid yourself of that string once and for all
After what seems like hours, the end is soon in sight
With a cry of satisfaction, you hold the other end
In the warm glow of your success
You fail to realize the new situation that has arised
Now instead of a sweater with a small string poking out
You find yourself completely without
