A Soldier's Christmas

Contributed by The_Phantom on Tuesday, 23rd December 2003 @ 01:29:18 PM in AEST
Topic: Holiday Poetry

A soldier's Christmas,
Lost in a world of unforgivness,
Far from home, at times feeling all alone,

Watching the snowflakes fall so soft and true,
Wishing I was home, missing the world I knew,
Feeling so strange, peacekeeping in a land where no one knows my name,

Getting letters from home, family and friends,
Feeling that sharp icy wind,
I can't help but feel the aching of my heart,
Knowing me and my loved ones are miles and miles apart,

Singing Christmas carols, trying to find that spirit,
If I close my eyes I can almost feel it,
But sometimes late at night I take a deep breath and sigh,
Cause I think about home and break down and cry,

I open an M.R.E, That's the only present I recieve,
I look over the hill and see the lights of town,
Those are my Christmas lights, I wait for them when the sun goes down,

So merry Christmas to all,
Even though I'm here, I'll stand tall,
We may be far away,
But please don't forget the soldier on this special day.

Forever Faithful
The Phantom

I have to agree with all the previous comments. A beautiful poem, very touching and a reminder that many families won't be together this year for christmas.
