faded sienna

Contributed by merry on Tuesday, 23rd December 2003 @ 08:24:25 AM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

the ragged edges
ancient photograph
faded sienna tint
the scratched surface
hidden for so long
in the attic trunk
under the eaves
where the mice sleep
all winter long
what is your story
my fingers ask
as i caress
your bearded cheek
old man
in the photograph
sombre, dark, mysterious
hardworking
by the look of you
in plain homespun clothes
and the woman
standing next to you
i know her face
by my own
eyes and cheekbones
i am her kin
what priceless treasure
i hold in my hands
as i eagerly explore
this battered trunk
full of yellowed newsprint
and musty ribbons
i see more clearly who i am

A look into the face of our ancestors and thier lives can bring many deep thoughts about ourselves. I really like this Gaille.
Very well done

Larry

I don't know what exactly to make of this but I did like it.
