LETTER FROM A SOLDIER’S WIFE

Contributed by Euphoria on Friday, 30th August 2002 @ 06:44:11 AM in AEST
Topic: LovePoetry

Blisters on my fingers emerge
Yet I continue writing letters
Perhaps you will return
And if the war has not devoured you
And the audacity and nightmares
Have not consumed your soul
Then perhaps my message will seep into your spirit
And warm your aching heart
Letters written with hope
Let your aura daunt me
Let our whispers haunt me
As tears fall upon the page
And mix with ink
The words entwine with what I feel
I can no longer conceal
The way it burns inside
The way of the war
Man against man
And remnants of destruction
And somewhere amidst the ruins
You stand;
In the smoke and stare at the ungodly silence
And as the shadow of death sweeps over the city
Hoping you don’t have to burn down another house
Think of me....
Think of me and of your unborn child
And my letters
Let that innocent man be...
To remain in the arms of his loved one
For I long to have you here
In these arms of mine
To cloak you with my warmth,
Waiting for the end of this era,
Waiting for you to come home,
I love you darling,
Yours forever.
