People Stay Away

In the playground she would play,
Alone, alone, on a winters day,
No smiles or laughter came her way,
Because she was "fat" they stayed away.
Over at college, she walked alone,
Noone to cry to, noone to phone,
Until finally, it was time to go home,
If friendship existed, it was only a loan.
At work she was timid, quiet and shy,
Watched the hours, the days, and the weeks drone on by,
Contemplated the easiest, best way to die,
And heaving with sorrow, took a deep sigh...
I knew her and, I was as much to blame,
As much as them all,
who never asked her name,
Just saw she was quiet, maybe no fun,
Walked straight on past,
And bathed in the sun,
Yes, I feel awful, and I will always say,
It doesn't cost nothin to not stay away.

I knew a poor girl once too....friends only kept her for a convenience...she could talk to anyone and get along with everyone..but still she was not included in all the 'school' things one should experience. Now that she is older she knows more about real friendship..what it means to give unto others unconditionally and finally recieve that in return. I know this all too well because that girl is me.....I like this poem alot :) |

Wow, great write. I think we all have expeienced similar situations where we treated someone poorly due to appearence or unpopularity etc. And probably most feel some regret for it... it's too bad we don't come to see the error of our ways before we've grown, after it's become too late to go back and change them.
Excellent work! Keep Writing!

Lia, I'm so sorry to hear you had a harsh childhood in that respect, I'm glad you've recognised others faults and in doing that can find real friendship, i know of many who still believe the friends that "keep them for convenience" are real friends!! It's awful...
thanks very much for reading and commenting,
