Today,
I went to school.
I rode a horse.
I played a game with our daughter.
Today.
I washed the car.
I cleaned the house.
I did all this while I waited.
Today.
Where did you go?
Why aren’t you home?
Have you been hurt, scared or murdered?
Today.
I cannot sleep.
I cannot think.
I cannot comfort our daughter.
Today.
I was a fool.
I said goodbye.
I said “I love you.” I meant it.
Today.
I walked outside.
In the pitch black.
And I’ll keep walking forever.
Today.
Today.
Today.
Where is my spouse?
When will I find her?
When can I ever be happy?
Today.
I mowed the lawn.
I thought you’d see it
And say hey, that’s good.
Today.
I cooked us dinner.
I got some movies.
I lit some candles for you dear.
Today.
Today.
Today.
The candles burnt out.
The dinner is moldy.
The movies have gone back forever.
Today.
The lawn is a swampland.
The clock is now broken.
The car’s been revoked, stripped and resold.
Today.
My girl is a woman.
The horse is now long dead.
The school is now closed and in ruins.
Today.
I am not happy.
I was not careful.
I said “I Love You.” I meant it.
Today.
Today.
Today.
