Here the sun sets beyond my walls
Leaving the will of darkness to fall
To wrap its long arms around me
And squeeze the struggling life
Out of each drop of sunset light
Here the streetlights are afraid to shine
Through the midnight's shimmering rain
It flows down the cold steep metal roofs
Dented, they too have felt the pain
Here enough sorrow has spread and molded
Into the cloaks of grief I see you dawn
As you head to the morning's funeral
So for each life, my bell tolls for your loss
Here my tears stream down with the morning drizzle
Slipping over the boarded windows
Collecting in the tread of your footprint
and splashing with the carriage train
Here it continues to the cobblestone street
And runs to the grate in the gutter
To flow back into the misty ocean
Then come back with the next morning's rain
Another tear wasted again
So I'll try again tomorrow
To show my grief and pain
My tears will stream once again
Down the cheek of a passerby
Hopefully they will arch their face to the sky
And wonder why
They are crying
