To Love A Thorn Is To Bleed

Better to love the yellow flower-
Than to love the thorn.
Only grief comes from a thorn-
Pain, blood, and then, more grief.
The life of the thorn is in your blood-
Not the blood itself, but the flow.
The end of the flow is the death of the thorn-
Run from the thorn, for your blood’s sake.
To love a thorn is to pronounce your own death-
Caress it at your own risk, and bleed for its lust.
Call forth your life, and surrender it to the thorn-
Your suffering blood is its ecstasy.
“Bleed,” cries the thorn, “bleed, so I can live-”
Its life matters, yours is of no consequence.
Die, so it may live life more abundantly-
“My blood dries on the point of the thorn.”
--- Goodbye my beautiful thorn. ---
