"For Someone Dear"
This poem is for someone dear to me
Just who it is I will not say
But I had a dream of him
This very day
A flight of fancy
Of you and I
If your request is to hear of it
In this rhyme I shall comply.
If I were with you this night
We would eat in candlelight
You would gaze in my eyes
And linger over dessert
To avoid our goodbyes.
Outside we would stroll
Arm in arm in the softly falling snow
And the Christmas lights would glow
Illuminating the love we would feel
Deep in our soul.
At the door you would leave me
With a hug but not a kiss
(Being with you is enough, I am not in need of this)
We gently squeeze one another’s hand
And bid one another adieu
And I would anxiously await
The next time I would see you.
But this is just a flight of fancy
Nothing more than a fairy-dream
Because I know not if this fantasy
Will become a reality.
The candlelit dinner was spent alone
And the softly falling snow was sleet
And instead of being on your arm
I was escorted home by blustery wind that chills to the bone.
I realize not all dreams come true
But if it will be to my Lord’s will and glory
I will continue to pray
That my mental musings
Will become a true story.
