mountains rise in high esteem
against a cloudless winter sky
as sharp as any silver blade
the sun a disk divine and pale
illuminates this wintry scene
behold the snow queen's realm
serene virgin wilderness
undisturbed by human touch
the sun alights on icy streams
to sparkle diamonds in my sight
the rose of winter has no thorns
but icy fingers her heart grips
her guards, the tall and stately pines
dressed in snow white epaulets
are at least ten thousand strong
standing on the mountainside
we have traveled far and long
the sun slips down to kiss her breast
the purple mountains already dark
before he turns into the west
the road a winding ribbon black
high in snowy mountain passi
i see the snow queen’s face at last
