The dream

Topic: HumorPoetry

I once had a dream I was on a boat
We were on the ocean for days afloat

The clouds slowly began to close in
I knew a storm would soon begin

The wind got stronger, the waves grew higher
The cap’t said “Do not fret”, but I knew he was a liar

The ocean wishes to swallow us whole
Forever we would be lost, body and soul

The boat rocked as each wave hit it
I soon tasted blood as my tongue I bit

All power went out, darkness is all around
This is when I first hear the sound

It is a scratching sound but unlike a rat
It is a deep sound, like something big and fat

It is faint at first, barely heard above the wind
Even so, shivers down my spine it does send

I hold my breath, straining to hear more
The sound has stopped, but I don’t know what for

This is when I knew the end was near
I never knew I could feel such fear

Afraid to move, afraid to breath, I close my eyes
I wish it was over, I don’t want this surprise

Out of nowhere, no sound was heard
The unthinkable finally occurred

I was saved from my horrible fate
When my cat landed on me with all her weight

Aroused from my nightmare, I let out a moan
I realize even in sleep, I’m not alone

The way you described the scratching sound was intense, it really built up tension then when it was your cat it was a heart warming relief. Its a good poem congrat's
