The pain of being a fool

The beginning mistaken for the end.
A promise of relief, bitter lies.
A pit of lead in my stomach
so heavy my soul drags me to the floor.
An emotion so beautiful, turned so ugly.
A kingdom, a fortune to forget the answer.
The hated days of yesterday?
Heaven to today’s hell. Sleep a dream,
food all bland, joy a joke.
I just want to quit.
A shattered shell, a broken man.
A bet I lost, a debt so cruel.
The world has never know so great a fool.
For I would do it all again,
and a thousand times more.
For the possibility of a different answer,
the chance,
at the one,
I hold dear.
