My Grandparents

Contributed by PumpkinPie on Tuesday, 9th December 2003 @ 02:55:38 PM in AEST
Topic: FamilyPoems

In my heart I feel your love
In my life I feel your touch
Sent specially to me from the great Lord above
How blessed am I to have grandparents as such!

Grandma, your homemade quilt keeps me warm on those coldest days
It was created with warmth, time and love especially for me
To remind me of your love, your presence, which is treasured always
A grandmother’s love towards her granddaughter, my friends secretly envy

Grandpa’s special poetry book that he gave me touched me deeply;
Knowing he thought about me, that he loves me to such a high degree
I read it before going to bed, I lose myself in it’s pages, they fill my heart with glee
Still, the first page remains the most precious, grandpa’s words addressed to me

I remember our day at the beach and grandma’s cooking
Grandpa’s car ride and the day spent with grandma shopping
Grandma’s humour and beauty, grandpa’s strength yet gentleness
All these important things I find myself missing, it was pure bliss

Your relationship is one I hope one day to achieve;
Everlasting love towards the other, bundles of love for us all
For all that you’ve done and said, it truly makes me believe
That I quite possibly do have the best grandparents in this world!

Touching, honest, endearing and true are but a few words I could use to describe what you've written here. Hold these values close to your heart and continue to let it shine so wonderfully in your writings. I enjoyed this very much....

My second poem I've read from you and again I see how words define you. "In my life I feel your love...In my life I feel your touch" You capture the audience successfully. A great ode to your grandparents it tells a nice story form beginning to end. The rhyme scheme could be tightened only because memories are like songs we like to sing along. Just a hint.....But truly wonderful you have a nice touch with poetry.

Pumpkin,
You brought back so many memories of my own beloved grandparents. Married over 50 years, I was closer to them than my own folks. They are both gone now, but I still miss them and wish I could call them. You are so blessed.

Your poem was honestly beautiful, and true of a Grandmothers Love. I lost my grandmother on my mothers side last year March 16 2004, My fathers mother is still alive, but I was so close to my mothers mother she was my mother and always will be! I try to get close to my Dads mom because I know just how special having a granmom is, but it seems she pushes away, and I just Miss my Grandma Cooper so much, you trully bring back memories Thank you!

Awesomely beautiful. Reminded me of all my grandparents who are deceased now but the great love and respect they had for each other. Incredible write to remind us younger people of what true love can really be. Loving each other and all that surrounds them. :)
