colors outside the lines

There is so much more to life
Than most will understand
So much more to a family
Than just a woman and a man
A families built on promises
Some that we can’t keep
But that which makes us stronger
Is what knocks us from our feet
A couple may not get up
Stay separate on the ground
But a family only knows
The strength they have found
The hurt is not forever
As some want you to believe
The tears disappear so quickly
When a child is in need
A bruise, bump or scratch
all demand us two
That is what makes it worth
all that we go through
I understand that in your eyes
Theirs only black and white
And if you don’t color in the lines
You may not be right
But my lifes colored like the rainbow
With many shades of grey
But it’s the scribbles outside the lines
That make me look forward to each day
