A sufferance is this;
The candles flutter one
Last flame flickered. The wax
Reduced to formless blobs
Across the tops of bookshelves,
Kitchen benches and dining
Table's cloth.
The music still plays;
Songs of lovers games and
Hearts beating soundly with strong
Bass line pulses. What is
Read in these lines of
Devotional chime?
A final flame persists but only
Briefly now. Darkness
Left complete bar for red
And green lights on stereo left
Playing out its lovers’ hymns.
Is denial this sufferance?
The candles are gone should
The music now too?
Curtains drawn. No
Light from star to permeate
This darkness lived
