Sleep

Contributed by p0rnstar on Thursday, 4th December 2003 @ 09:24:13 PM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

I'm waking up in a cold sweat
the nightmare is a piece of my reality
Black cancer eating away my images
afraid of my own mortality
My heart is bursting through my chest
now wide awake I cannot sleep
Behind closed eyes I still see the horrific display: the grotesque dance of the dead who weep
Hands clenched, frozen in suspended animation
floating in disease, my sickness is adversity
My limbs drawn and tight still I lie
against love and hope I have an immunity
What has become of me; this broken shell of a girl
I tried to resist being trapped in their conformity
Nothing has helped nothing has reached me yet
In the dark I grope for my lost and shattered idenity
Shadows reach and clawl their way over my black soul
Grey swirls of dark clouds evade me as if I have hope after all
Toward the light of reason and warmth the darkness recedes
Sheets are soaked with sweat and tears, a shadow cast on my wall
In and out of sleep the morning dawn approaches
the convulsions have subsided leaving me weeping
A new day has begun, awaiting the night again to face
alone I bear this within, the secret when I am sleeping

But why do the dead weep? Surely not because theymiss life, with all the pain in it. Or maybe now they see it from another point of view...
Anyhow, I liked your poem. Very dark, it made me feel cold when I read it.
Take care.
David

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
