One Last Stroll

Contributed by CrystalSilence on Tuesday, 2nd December 2003 @ 07:28:21 PM in AEST
Topic: StoryPoetry

Along a crooked dusty track, beneath a canopy of green
She takes a final stroll,a lonely time it's been
Many years she has struggled, everyday to carry on
Without the one who held her heart, for so long he's been gone

Noticing the flowers, growing wild aside the way
Awkwardly she stoops and there her fingers stray
Across the purple petals, that he'd once bring to make her smile
On his way home from the fields,he would visit here a while

She did not care to pick them, instead she left them where they swayed
Never could they mean as much, without his touch upon them made
Imagining him bending there, kneeling on the ground
A few tiny tears were tasted as they fell then without sound

The sunlight came in streaks, spraying through the leaves
Warming to her face, but not the heart that grieves
For nothing through the years, had held her quite like him
And so the the burning sun, compared to love was dim

This will be her final stroll,no more days will have her here
Her time has come, her family's growing is done, she'll not last another year
And so she finds the special place, from all those years before
Where two had stood and held the other, plans of raising kids and more

Looking all about the meadows, she took in with one last breath
The memories of a lifetime, and then she courted death
Peaceful as she rested, against the tree where they'd first kissed
Now she sees the light, and runs to the man she's missed

This was touching and sadening. I loved it but it made me weep within. It was beautiful none the less.

Thank you for your comment on my poem. It is you that has no idea what that meant to me. Especially since you write with such beauty and feeling. Thank you again.
