Isn’t it amazing
How people seem to change?
Not only in aging
For nothing stays the same
Changing from job to job
And children, how they grow
Unpretentious to snob
Truly caring to shallow
Though appearance may not alter
You’ll see behind their eyes
There is a hidden layer
They’re afraid you’ll despise
Sometime in their history
Someone, they did displease
The guilty trait, they did bury
A new mask, they did seize
Why should we hide the truth?
What help does that give?
In time, these things we must loose
And with them, we must learn to live
The moral of this story
Is to be who you are
For masks are too costly
And they only hide the scars
With time and attention
The wounds you have will heal
And with determination
You’ll find the you that’s real

I always had cheap masks.
They are falling off, and I cannot rebuild them from the shards.
Exept my one pretty mask, whose strings I untied.
I like this.
It makes me think. |
