Your love
Was like the hottest fire
I had ever gazed upon
And so quickly
It blinded me
Shielding my eyes
I turned to gaze
Once more towards you
But the fire
That once burned
So intensely
Was now nothing
But dying embers
Crying
I plunged my heart into
The coals
To purge myself of you
And the love you once felt
I prayed my heart would die
In those flames
But the fire
Had become cool
And my heart
Was not purged
Merely scorched
Would that I could
Cry a river
And wash away
The ashes of my heart
But bitter tears cried
Do not wash away
They merely stain
