The other day I met a guy outside our local pub.
Don't get me wrong, the kind of place where you can get a sub.
We're sitting there and yacking 'bout the price of tea and hay,
When suddenly, before my eyes, appeared a shocking play.
Sitting at a table and she's having lunch and such,
was a girl and she reminded me of history very much,
Her appearance was a replica of someone from my past,
A similar persona and a bridge to cross, at last.
You wonder why I put it the way I do, well, this is why,
For sixty years I searched the world and never found a tie
To a girl I knew when I was young and loved for seven years,
When we finally grew frustrated and she left us, both in tears.
I walked up to madonna and I smiled as I said,
"You look like someone from my past." Lil was in my head.
Madonna whipped out a can of mace and sprayed it in my face.
"Get out of here. I'll call a cop." She put me in my place.
There is no moral to the tale. It's just a bit of life.
I'm married now for many years and she's a wonder wife.
Still, now and then, the past comes up and bites me where I sit,
Then, goes away and I resume, enjoying every bit.

Hi norm I'm glad I caught you up again
And boy do I recall the times I felt a similar pain
The touble is I remember them as lovely girls they were
And when I meet them now all wrinkled and grey hair
I take me to a mirror to remind me of what's there

what a wonderful poem for the past.
She wasn't very nice to give you a blast!
You didn't touch her or knock her where she sat did you?
I had a similiar experience once at a drive through...there I was with three little kids..pretty young yet, and enjoying a fizz...who should park right in front of me but a man I'd loved.....but he wouldn't marry me, I was the wrong religion in his eyes....I wanted so much to get out of my little scout and walk on over and see how he is was getting all about! He was all alone still, and then the I thought best if I don't....he may not allow! Last time I ever saw him....wonder about him to this day. Isn't it fun to have your past loves show up from your past in funny ways!
Loved your poem...you and Bob always seem to have a lot in common! *smiles* especially when it comes to ladies!
