Child Lost

I had a dream of myself last night
Take away ten years.
I wore short shorts
And my legs came up to my ears.

I was wonderfully immature
My smile unbelievably bright,
I laughed a glorious laugh
And inside out I was full of light.

A beautiful self-conscious girl
Was staring back at me.
Both child and woman
I had to wonder where could that person be?

She was bound and kidnapped long ago
Tortured by insecurity, ego and pride.
Fragments of her can still be found,
But the remainder was tossed aside.

Dearly beloved, we gather here today
In memory of a girl who was cast away.
Carefree, beautiful, wonderous and wild,
God only knows what happened to this child.
