Afar Away

Contributed by fionndruinne on Tuesday, 25th November 2003 @ 11:05:52 PM in AEST
Topic: PoemsonBeauty

Afar away
Beneath the hills
There is a place
Where evening stills

Where under stars
The mirror mere
Reflects the light
Of olden year

Where night-wind swells
And softly sings
In wooded fells
Of olden things

Afar away
The trees are tall
The stately lords
Of forest all

There yet they stand
Untouched by man
Whose petty hands
Are never still

They ever dream
Of wondrous craft
Yet never match
The Olden Hands

And from their works
Is petty ruin
More oft than good
that they might make

Fulfilling not
the Olden Law
Of heedfulness
And stewardice

And even so
When ruin they may
And ruin they do
Tis not for all

The forest holds
And it regains
like Olden Laws
That still remain

Afar away
The trees are tall
And bright the day
Is over all

the Hills near Riverside, are simply beautiful, and yes, as muddled with bad Stwards of God's blessings. Beautiful poem. I enjoyed the reference to stewardship (once a dispensationalist, always a dispensationalist) and that you recognize that we must take care of what God hs entrusted with us to take care of (but yet is failing miserably.)

I'm commenting in thanks of your comment to my poem, Inside.

You're an amazing writer based on this one poem. Your rhyming at the beginning was flawless. Many people's rhymes are forced and break with the flow of the poem, but your lines flow seamlessly. Sorry, I'm a terrible speller. Um, this reminds me of some of Tolkien's hobbit poems. That's meant to be an amazing compliment. I saw that you like Tolkien, and that pleased me, for I adore his writing style.

Very good poem. A little longer then I`m use to when reading, but still very good. Keep it up.

You're a herdsman of the old world... Wonderful flowing rhythm, enchanting images that awake a longing in me for something I've never known...
Hugs,
Hur
