the afternoon sun

the softest faded blue
wraps me in its embrace
skin still damp from the shower
hold me for a little while
before the day begins
and i must get dressed
the quiet house is all mine
no distractions on my time
the cat sleeps while i write
and i envy her ability
to ignore me so completely
while i tinker with the words
the kitchen beckons with chores
and the laundry appears piled up
the bed's unmade and the dishes undone
but the words keep me so occupied
i do not seem to have the time
to cook and clean and wash the clothes
golden light everyday at this hour
pours in the window
and through my door
as if to cheer me up
and i welcome it
before the dark of night
when you come home looking worn
a smile and a kiss is want you want
i give them to you willingly
you never ask what i've done
to pass th hours while you were gone
and i hold my silence like pain
i lie awake with uncertainty
what is my role; my destiny?
to cook and clean and make the bed?
is this a gift or more like a curse
to posess these words inside my head
that demand so much of me these days
I let the sun wash over me now
as i write these words all down
in rows and rows of simple prose
my life, my heart, my very soul
and maybe someday someone will read
and understand that this is me

Soul baring.....and masterfully done. The honesty in this write pours forth. I know the passion of the pen, and know the pain of unfullfilled need. One of your best Gaille. ;o)
Roses in return for the cookies..lol

Merry, Merry, I know the feeling. I always had the dishes done, the beds made, the vacuum run, until I started writing some....now it's rare for me to have anything done! But I'm having so much fun. You don't want to be identified for doing all that other stuff...but you will be remembered for your beautiful poetry...this was a "sunshine" poem if I ever read one. Warmed my soul...it's cold here in Wyoming...send me some more sun please.
Lovely Mer.
