Somewhere in the street
Plays a little girl with stars in her eyes
And the world at her feet.
She's got expectations,
Got goals made to set,
Can't see through complications
How quickly they forget.
And somewhere down the road
Sits a girl in a room.
Afraid of the sunshine,
So she lives by the moon.
Her hopes have all fallen,
Her world's dark and decayed
All she wants is a family
Somewhere she's welcome to stay.
Then we find ourselves back to that girl on the street,
Whose standards aren't failed
Goals one day she might meet.
The older one cries 'cause she's lost and alone...
And can't find her way back to a place that's a real home.
Though one day she'll get up and go out in the sun
To face expectations; but the work's just begun.
But one day she'll look up at the sky and she'll know
That all of this time, she could've made it on her own.
