SIR WILLIAM CLAIRE
Copyright Joy futrell 2003
Tranquility of the moonlight on the water;
Coolness of the grass beneath my feet,
While taking a much needed saunter
A handsome knight I did meet.
He was seated on his valiant steed,
As pitch black, as night was its color,
Reflections of moonbeams I did heed,
Such a beautiful mount, none other.
The sight of this man took my breath away,
For he startled me in my silence;
How dare he enter my solitude this way
I glared at him with defiance..
His face was gruff but princely,
His eyes did brightly gleam.
When he peered deeply at me;
My impulse was to scream.
But as I looked closer at his face,
As the wind blew his hair around;
A strange, uncertain feeling took place,
As if I were floating o’er the ground.
When he dismounted his horse,
My breath started to quicken,
Fear through my veins did course,
I found myself awe stricken.
We stood staring into each other’s eyes,
A flicker of a spark we did share.
He took my hand ever so refined,
Presenting Sir William Claire.
As time passed on, we met frequently,
In the moonlight amongst the mist;
Sometimes until dawn we would sit by the sea,
Once sharing true loves first kiss.
No one could know of the passion we shared,
It was forbidden in this place,
We could not lock our love away somewhere,
For that would be a disgrace!
One night by the waters edge I did wander
A messenger rode down from the hill.
He held a letter from my suitor,
As I read it, I felt quite ill.
Into battle, my love had to ride,
He never apprised me of this.
How I wish I were there by his side!
Just to feel one more soft kiss.
Hours turned to days and days to weeks,
Not one letter I had accrued
My passion grows and my heart weeps,
Must I bid my true love adieu?
A fort’ night from then I did see,
The King’s messengers coming forth,
An urgent message they did bring,
They rode in from the North.
My hands were trembling
As they came to my door,
Such a panicked fear,
I had not felt before.
My dearest love,
If you are reading this letter,
I have perished in battle,
I will love you forever.
I shall never forget you,
My Lady fair,
You will always be with me.
Sir William Claire.
Oh, the tears I did shed,
On that day and days that followed.
Sometimes I sense his presence,
When the winds come through the hollow.
I still walk along the waters edge
Waiting for the winds to blow.
Looking at the moonlit heavens;
How beautiful the stars do glow.

Oh my goodness.
I loved this.
It was if I was in the fairy tale myself.
This was great.
You did an excellent job writing this.
