Driven

Topic: StoryPoetry

Through pouring rain, she drove one night
Without direction,all alone
Along the endless stretch of road
That was taking her far from home
She tried to reason with herself
It's just better to forget
But all the feelings kept clouding 'round
So she lit a cigarette
Inhaling deep as she does with all
Never a taste,always too much
Exhaling with a smokey sigh
As her thoughts began to rush
The driving rain kept it up
Relentless in its force
Blurring the windscreen,her vision impaired
The storm showed no remorse
Unable to make out where it was
The road seemed to disappear
She tried to concentrate really hard
But the hurt was stronger than fear
Turning up the radio
She heard a familiar song
Tears welled up,yet still she smiled
And started to sing along
Lost now in the memories
Somewhere in the past
She was crying uncontrollably
And driving way too fast
The song it just took over
Taking her back to when
She wore the smile he gave to her
So she wouldnt have to pretend
As lightening cracked across the sky
She caught a momentary glimpse
Of the countryside that surrounded her
And the bend that she just missed
It was too late for screaming
So she just went with the flow
And as she plunged into the darkness
Still she sang "Desert Rose"
