MY HANDS

After a lifetime, I just never looked before,
My hands, what was it they adored?
My hands, are my hands, to me belong,
and whatever I do.....they do too!
Interesting places, and touched faces,
Remembering each form, their many traces.
Were they good hands, minus abuses?
In another hand by choice, a ring infuses.
Did my hands carry the load of my heart?
Doing all things expected of them, depart?
And when a loss was undeniable.
Did they hang heavily by my side, quietly, dull?
Touching a hand that was dying, having to let go.
Wanting to hold it forever, to heal my soul!
Dear little faces, and noses did they wipe?
How many bottoms did they clean with delight?
My hands, how many hands have they shook?
Friendly, loving, kindly, comforting, n'er forsook.
When they were young, vital, like a ballet recital.
Piano keys nimble, no pain, no hesitation, agile.
Smooth tightly formed, no wrinkles, loose skin.
Prompted, encouraged within, did they begin?
The beautiful dresses they sought and sewed.
A wee little face brought smiles that glowed.
Pigtails, Puffs, curls, bobby pins galore.
Hands and knees, lots of soap, scrubbed floor.
Wedding dresses created by these hands....
Special ordered, special fitted, lacy strands.
These hands embraced a million hugs
Filled jugs, shook rugs, tots tugs!
How many newspapers did they print,
typeset style?
Words, cut lines, ads, legals, books,
corrections file.
My hands were very strong, and needed to be.
All alone for many years, changed tires,
oil, burley.
Midwife to litters of puppies, and wee kittens.
Ski sweaters knit, scarves, gloves, mittens.
Embraced old wonderful friends,
and helped them to die.
Rubbing their bodies, as they sighed their last sigh.
My hands were, and are, the extensions
of my heart.
My hands were created to accomplish
any task, truly a work of art!
And when these hands someday withdraw.
I will never stop looking at them without awe!
Loyal, courageous, enduring, foreseen n'er a fall.
Never shirking their duties, missing,
not one single call!
My hands, my heart, my soul,
have been one in all!

The picture and the poem fit like lovers
---------------------------------------------------
The 'Critters' lady took a part,
of her body, and from the start,
Explained the use with some abuse,
She did it well, with all her heart.
Dear 'Critters' lady, please believe,
No one's laughing up their sleeve,
Those hands of your worked all your life,
And did so well you have no peeve.
Stop work, sweet 'Critters', enjoy a rest

Hello 'mate
Sometime it's eyes
sometime a smile
sometimes surprise
lingers awhile
A cheerful laugh
in fun we share
but it takes hands
to show you care.
