Rollercoaster Ride

Contributed by xoirishxo on Monday, 26th August 2002 @ 06:43:53 AM in AEST
Topic: LovePoetry

I had my ticket handed to me
One that was soiled and misused
It had been thru the wash and cleaned
But still appeared abused

I took a long walk alone
around the park I went
Watching other people as they got off the rides
some smiles, some tears, some with heads bent

I've stood in one line over and over again
But I always panicked and fled
Never actually got on the ride
Because my heart warred with my head

I checked out what the park had to offer
but the rides I went on were not meant to last
Some had me spinning, others were a bore
I got sick on a few...they just went too fast

The Merry-Go-Round caught my eye
Simplitcity at its best
Going in circles...around and around
eventually it failed the test

Passing the one I had avoided before
Butterflies flapped their wings inside
I took a deep breathe and decided to do it
It was time for the Rollercoaster ride.

The rules were spoken as the ride began
The belts and bars in place
The ride started with a jolt
My heart began to race

Clenching the seat with fists closed tight
A million fears running thru my head
"Relax," I was told..."don't stress at what's to come
Don't panic...Enjoy yourself instead"

I took a deep breath and opened my eyes
while Inching towards the top
I made the decision then and there
To just have fun before it stopped

The coaster raced suddenly
It took me by surprise
I had no idea I could feel this way
No time for why's

Enjoying the wind as it whips thru my hair
Loving the freedom...my hands in the air
Eyes closed lightly...not longer squeezed tight
Exhileration has now replaced fright

I've never experienced the unexpected turns,
the sudden twists and bends
Moving quickly, no time to worry
about when the ride might end

My heart still fights with my head at times
As the ride continues to speed
But the pleasure I feel and the freedom it grants
right now it's all I need

The operator just waved us on again
Bubbles of laughter well up inside
Don't know why I waited so long...
I am really loving this ride

Great poem irish! Something tells me it's not really about a rollercoaster though. Have fun, but remember, rollercoasters tend to end exactly where they started... you know my situation.

See ya at work!
