Shackled to earth by
the steely links of past regrets
the ache of wrongs not righted
The wounded sparrow strives
to fly away
But she is weighted;
tethered down with memories
Living out her life
adrift in a sea of despair
Who knows what visions
pass behind her lustrous eyes;
Perhaps the dreams of love
she never had
Who will save
the wounded sparrow
When will her restless heart
Find love's sweet absolution
Give her wings to float away
to take a breath and soar
into skies of
turqoise and cream
