Shame Street

Contributed by Avarice_Riot on Thursday, 20th November 2003 @ 12:22:40 PM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

Well, you just hand me the money
And I give you the momentary pleasure
Sometimes we don't even need
these deceiving white sheets
An inconspicuous stairwell will do.
Your demanding whispers fill me
with disgust, but then the need
kicks in.
I service you the way I'm told
I surrender my body for cash
To fulfil this instinct for survival
You won't thank me after we're done
You just revive your ridiculous facade and
go back home to your family.
I just lie here, exposed in
more than one way
Wondering how I got here
Wondering where I'll go
And, oh, dignity
Will you ever come back to me?

Written simply and truthfully with a fair bit of emotion, that is my favorite kind. You described it to a T. Such a tragic life for so many, the money may mask the pain, but the dignity lost can never really be replaced within your own mind. Very well done again.
