Friendship's Food For Thought

Topic: goodbyepoetry

I hope with these final words of parting, you will finally see,
That the problem with this friendship is both you and me.
But as fate would have it, our differences got in the way,
And as a result, a long-standing friendship ends today,
Like two strong pillars of stone, standing side by side,
With neither one of us willing to swallow our pride,
We both have turned away with our strong opinions intact,
Learning nothing from this lesson of compassion we lack,
We didn’t try hard enough to put these differences to rest,
Our stubbornness to be right put our friendship to the test,
But what is the loss when each agrees to swallow their pride?
We both win when acceptance of our differences are put aside,
For true friends should always be equals in each other’s eyes,
To not judge, making accusations to cause another’s demise,
To lay blame on one or the other, between friends this is wrong,
We both caused this conflict and let it continue for much too long,
We can both heed the message written in these words…. or not,
These are just words, they are indisputable food for thought,
A sharp tongue does cut deeper than the sharpest edge of a sword,
Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone, said the Lord.
I truly believe that neither you nor me is in any godly position,
To cast the first stone would be sinful and an immoral contradiction,
If one believes in being high and mighty by taking the moral ground,
They should first take a good look at themselves is what I’ve found,
To blame and accuse others, when they themselves have done wrong,
Is just one more way of fooling themselves, something they’ve done all along,
So if one takes offence to another friend’s inappropriate conversation,
Then in turn the other takes offence to the other friend’s indiscretion,
Close friends should try and open their eyes and agree to see,
That no one is without sin, not even you and not even me,
But we are only human and we must try to learn from our mistakes,
And not be so quick to judge each other for the different roads that we take,
So here is some food for thought for both of these foolish friends,
Before you lash out at others, think about what you do, and say and whom it offends.
