The Unattainable One

Contributed by harshreality on Tuesday, 18th November 2003 @ 04:17:46 PM in AEST
Topic: LoveRemembered

I know your past is full of grief.
You chose so carefully who to let in,
Then they'd turn their back and leave.

It was never about love,
Only the pursuit...
Holding on, only to see if they could break you.

The unattainable one...
They just had to get close

Facing a constant challenge -
Trying to prove who loved you most.

I sat on the sidelines
And refused to take part.
I couldn't stand to be just another contender...
Chasing after your heart.

I know you thought I moved on,
But thats simply not true.
I stayed behind;
All the while still loving you.

I had others in my life,
But it was never the same;
They saw it in my eyes,
I could not hide the pain.

They chose to ignore,
And look the other way...
Ignorance is bliss;
But I couldn't live a lie -
Thats why I never stayed.

And here we are once again.
You know I love you,
So why continue to live your life this way?
When will you realize...
You just let the wrong ones in?

They never saw how special they were,
Only cared about being labeled -
Your girl.

I was never that shallow...
Always loved you for you.

They stole your heart,
To shove in each other face...
Now, no matter how hard I try...

The pain they've left;
I can't erase.

Twice I went through such an experience (long ago) but reading your poem it seemed like yesterday
