The Star

Contributed by Eve on Monday, 17th November 2003 @ 09:42:09 PM in AEST
Topic: StoryPoetry

They say she came
When the stars did.
They say that she herself was a star,
A maiden of the stars.

So they say.

She came when nighttime fell
Like a blanket over the earth.
She fell along with it,
Appearing as a shooting star.
Though she illuminated everything
She touched when she landed,
The sky went pitch.

One by one,
The stars twinkled out of the atmosphere,
And all of them fell beside her.
Even the moon obeyed her command
And hid its round face from her eyes.

That night, most of the world experienced
A darkness more complete
Than they'd ever believed could be.
But only most.

Those that spotted her
Or her luminary companions
Were instantly blinded from the transition.
The transition of pitch darkness
To a brilliant light
That not a thousand lights could match.

They say she left when the stars did.
They say that she herself was a star,
The queen of the stars.

So they say.

Oh My Eve, this poem is simply splendid.
You are right, in poetry we have that freedom. Anything goes...we don't have to rhyme I wish Crow was still with us. He had the most marvelous way with words...he didn't always rhyme either, but we always heard his words
This poem is beautiful. I really enjoyed reading it, and am so glad you feel secure enough not to have to rhyme.
I'm looking forward to many more these so fine!
