red eye from pittsburgh

Topic: Lifepoems

flying at night
city lights bright
then far away
as engines roar
leave the ground behind
up into darkness
mysterious unseen
no sense of direction
nothing beyond the
small black windows
the dim cabin lights
the soft murmur of travelers
everyone a story to tell
i close my eyes
disguising my boredom as sleep
hang out the do not disturb sign
i don't want to talk to you
i don't know you and i don't want to
the bumping and shifting of air
disturbing and alarming
the solid ground so far below
suspended in the darkness
the attendant is serving drinks
the bottles rattle and speak
she makes her way down the aisle
i want a blanket, please - i'm cold
she brings me a pretty blue one
i try to stop shivering
sleep sitting next to someone
i don't even know
he's sleeping too
the engines roar and time flies
the pilot announces we are twenty minutes out
i peer into the darkness
looking for anything familiar
as we start to descend
i see the mall next to the airport
and the highway on the right
suddenly hopeful that this trip is over
the wheels hit the runway with a thud
engines strain to stop the forward momentum
and we roll to a stop
thank you for flying with us
yeh, yeh. just let me off.

Wow..these are my exact feelings
-----------------------------------------
I thought I was the only one in the main
who swore they'd never go back again,
Tho wagon train, can't possibly attain,
The speed of the flying aeroplane.

I'd rather take a wagon train,
In snow and sleet across the plain,
It's terribly slow and truly insane,
But I'm not in a hurry for mental pain.

I think anyone who flies, even every so often, can empathise with you here. It gets to be just like a long long long taxi ride!! With less leg room!
