In the Still of the Night

Topic: DreamsandWishes

In the Still of the Night

In the still of the night he comes to me
A conjured image of dark hair and haunted eyes
He reaches out with tentative hands
Caution borne of past heartache and lies

For deceit, a cold and unforgiving beast
Had chewed and clawed at his heart
So he reined in emotions and turned a cold shoulder
Now he's unsure how to make a fresh start

He wears his distrust like a mantel
His pride thrust forth as a shield
Would he but allow himself to love again
A bounty the future would reveal

So in the still of the night I wait patiently
And when he comes to me I'll hold out my hand
If he can release this hold life has over him
I'll give my heart and soul to this man.
