The Drunken Poet

Contributed by doug on Sunday, 16th November 2003 @ 06:45:04 PM in AEST
Topic: HumorPoetry

once upon a time back in the days of yore
there lived a fair maiden stold my heart forever more
pity to my soul whos love she knowth not
for with a shyness I was plagued and with my courage fought
so to myself I thought how do I cure this shyness
and while I thought a jug I bought to cure my throat from dryness
I drank the jug of spirits down unto the bottom
and stumbled to her window on a chilly night in autumn
hear ye I shouted, hear me now or never
come unto your window that I may pledge my love forever
she came to her window this she surely did
she threw down a flower pot and hit me in the head
be gone drunk she said, let the night be still
stop all of your howling and leave my window sill
I said you got it wrong love though I am drunk its true
I came not to disturb thee but to pledge my love for you
then she went to smiling I'm sorry bout that pot
is your head alright dear for I fear that it is not
I'm alright I shouted , for your love I'll take a pot
I came to you drunk because I with my courage fought
fool she said or jester who at my window dances
come back on the morrow and you shall have your chances
and so I slept it off and in the morning came
to win my maidens heart and I love her to this day

Yep, tack me onto the end of these seven, doug. I thoroughly enjoyed the plot, rhyme and humour you employed to make this work. Good job.

Poet realized he was not going to find true happiness with false courage. Once he presented his true self he found real love.
