I wish I may I wish I might

Contributed by harshreality on Sunday, 16th November 2003 @ 06:11:04 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

star light, star bright, first star I see tonight...
I wish I may; I wish I might; have the wish;
I wish tonight...
Growing up it always seemed-
The older I got, the closer I'd be to fulfilling
My dreams.
I was too small to touch the stars,
But i just knew oneday...
I'd be big enough to hold them all.
I really believed I would grab every wish I ever
Made,
And magically it would come true.
It just seems so foolish now.
As the years passed;
Those childish fantasies began to undo.
Its hard to see how someone so small;
can be filled with so much belief:
Adults have no room, for Fairytale non sense.
Its something our minds can't concieve -
Times to precious to waste.
Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight...
I wish I may;I wish I might; have the wish;
I wish tonight....
untaint me and return my faith.

It seems that the older we get, the more we believe that things we wish for can't come true. I can definately relate to this poem. A child's faith in someone or something is one of the most powerful things in the world. Great write!

You were right...I did like that - a lot! That was really good and I too have to agree with you that adults don't really know how to just be a kid and relax. Keep it up!

Speaks to me of a longing to capture or return to the safety of the pleasent and safe feelings of childhood. As age progresses poet feels further from the warm feelings of a loosing of the past.
