The tears may not come outside,
But inside, 'twill always be.
Is there not anything
To save me?
To spare the sorrow;
Sadness, and despair,
Happiness-
Being ever so rare.
Sometimes there's a spark of hope,
You grab it, keep it, and try to cope,
With all the sorrow all around,
With just that little
Spark you found.
And soon it gets bigger,
Until you have to share,
And suddenly
There is no more sorrow or despair.

I like the first part of the poem...despairingly dark and hopeless. Of course I am partial to the very negative views of life. Despair has been my constant companion and I found myself liking it. Your second part sort of defeats that I guess...I know you overcome you despair with hope but perhaps some time hope blinds some people to the realities of life...not every time you hope you succeed...sometimes it is better to surrender to despair's loving embrace than waste time on misleading hope. Oh well...I am just a despairing and opinionative reader. |

To Baronhawk: Honestly, I agree with you. The second part was actually false for me, as the hope I had been speaking of was put out several days later by a bit of bad news. Of course, this piece of poetry was written quite a while back, and since then I don't remember writing hopeful poetry.
However, for those optimistic poets out there, since you're optimists you probably have some luck, and therefore need not worry about your writings proving wrong. |
