The Past

Contributed by Trisha on Thursday, 6th November 2003 @ 11:47:27 PM in AEST
Topic: StoryPoetry

I Hate The Past You Were In The Picture. Did I Choose To Have You? You Made YourSelf At Home. What Made You Welcome? I Didn't Stop You I Was To Afraid. Seeing Your Arms Working Your Way To Hold Me Down Tight There Wasn't Reason To Fight You Back! Being So Young What Make You Come In? Did You Think About My Future? Did You After Think What I Thought? What's The Word Rape Mean? Not Saying No That's Still Rape? My Thought's Matter I Was.
That's The Past I Remember Like It Was Yesterday. People Say Let Go When Someone Taken You My Freedom Away.

If you can't talk about it - write about it and get it out in the open so you can heal. I send my thoughts and love.

as far as the content of this poem, i'm sort of at a loss for what to say. It seems almost patronizing to express sympathy, since we do not know each other it would be nearly impossible (for me at least) to feel emotional about this. But i do like your poem, there is a certain repressed desperation in it, like words that have been repressed, waiting for a long time to be expressed. Some of the phrases i find it hard to follow though, like people say let go when someone taken you my freedom away and my thoughts matter i was i don't really understand what you mean here. But, all in all i do like this one, partially because it's not like all ( a lot) of the others i read here.

I can feel where you are coming from with this poem, as I too was raped. I find that writing about the hurtful things that have happened to me has helped me heal in a way. I hope that it is the same for you.
