Once upon a time,
There was a girl
Who was forced to learn
That nothing ever would go right
And that no one could be trusted
She would cry up in her room
For hours on end
Hoping that he would leave
Leave her alone
And stop saying what he’d say
He was all she had
So she wished for nothing at all
She’d rather be all alone
In the dark
In the cold
In the world
Then to live with the damage
That he had done
The things he did to her
Are things she can’t forget
Because she was so afraid
To come home
Because of what
He might do next
He brought her whole world down
Leaving her heart broken
Her soul diminished
Her dreams lifeless
Her hope taken
Her future was ruined
Completely
“Father,” she would sob
Softly before she fell asleep,
“Why do you do,
All that you do?
Do you not love me?
Am I unimportant?
What have I done,
To make you have no faith in me?”
