That Was Me

Not brave enough to confess
That my life was one vast mess
And that I needed to address
That I wasn’t more; I was less
Looking for something to shine bright
To guide me on, to be my light
To show me what was wrong from right
And let me not be afraid of the night
Thanking God I no longer had to be
The depressed person that was me
Opening the way, so I could see
And destroying all my misery
Caring more than I thought I could care
For everyone, always being there
Wiping away the mess, leaving it bare
And happy that they could spare
No longer lost, no longer confused
Preventing from being once again bruised
But still feeling somewhat used
Because there’s no task I’ve ever refused
Not letting pain, pull me astray
Not protesting, not a sneer I’d say
Seeing the sunlight of every wonderful day
And completing my life in an amazing way
Thanking the ones, who did all of this
And let me live life in abundant bliss
But I can’t give them a hug, or even a kiss
Cause I can’t see them, and all of them I miss
But I see them in a way, they can be seen
While they share advice that is wise and keen
Thanks be to them, I am who I am
