Proud To Be Their Mum

Contributed by lovingwhispers on Wednesday, 29th October 2003 @ 06:27:40 PM in AEST
Topic: MiscPoems

Upon my face,a smile appears
Along with a couple of happy tears
For the ones who have my whole heart
And on this world sweet love impart

My babies last night came to me
Asked of all the tears they see
The ones that fell for others pain
My boy smiled and said "again?"

I told them of a sadness
A deep disturbing painful place
Where young and old are left to wither
Treated as though they're a disgrace

I explained about the white man
How he finds the need to be so cruel
Kicking down a beautiful people
With wicked heart he rules

Upon the reservations
Many are starving,young and old
Babies at their mamas breast
Freezing from the cold

No clothes to warm their bodies
Shoes worn and bodies ravaged
Here I said with helpless sighs
"Kids, you decide who is the savage"

For the Native American way
Is of peace and love and good
They would never see a child starve
They would give whatever they could

Thrown to the reservations
Kept a slave of bitter ale
Leaving once strong men of pride
Idle,dreams and hope all paled

My babes just sat and listened
Ready for every word
I could tell by their faces
Their lil hearts were now stirred

Rushing off in all directions
Each one of them to find
Some clothes and toys to send away
They're faves,they didn't mind

Was then I got to crying
For the happiness they bring
How very proud they made their Mum
How loud their souls did sing

Each one I gave a great big hug
And held them nice and tight
Silently I prayed that life
Would never take away their light

It would only take a few
Of every family in the States
To round up clothes and blankets
Food for the people's plates

We can make donations to a poetry site
To keep it up and running
Why cant we give a little love
To a nation that man is shunning

The plight of the American Indian is one of the darkest chapters in our history. You make a good point here.

if all nations could be in brotherhood, this is a serious problem, food, warmth clothing.
on the reservations. I will get info on this, and share. I have never thought of children as champions, till now. thank you children. Crow

A very caring, well-written poem. However I must point out that the First Nations are asmuch to blame for their sad plight as we are. We have given them our money, time, freedoms, etc. etc. and they have nothing to show for it. Once again a great poem.

just let me point -out, if people had not taken their country, you would have no money, in order to give freedoms you have to take it away. how can you be so bold as to say we have given, when it never was yours to give.
let me come and take all you have, reward you with a megar sum and set you free.

Your kids sound so sweet. I'm really touched by this write. I can just picture the scene. I love my mother deeply for teaching me the same things you teach them. Children are the light of our world. They are the future.......

Thank you for the inspiration and thought.
Truly amazing poetry.
Love joy and Peace,
Jellybellyprincess

I remember in 1960's Sharon, Pres Kennedy said, there is 1 child out of every 10 in the USA that goes to bed hungry every night! Now that was 40 years ago...and things are even worst than they were then...it's a shame on this nation or any nation that would allow this to happen.
Wonderful little kids you have, and you can never teach them too young how to give to others.
Beautiful heartwrenching poem!

Your children are equally proud to have you as their Mum. I couldn't have said it any better. Believe me I too share your pain. My ancestors indured the same. Something I'll ever understand. But then some things in life aren't meant to be explained. This earthly life. What gives me reason to go on is that there will come a time with we will have to answer to a much higher authority. He knows all and sees all. We can't lie to him, deny to him. Life is temporary.......death is forever, and in passing through the veil each deed will be taken into account. So please feel better.

A very heartfelt write, and your children they're little hearts as much bigger than we know.:) I really glad I chanced upon this poem. Take good care.

In regards to Crow's comment, I agree with you 100%. How can one give back what never belonged to them in the first place? How can one give back dignity, pride, peace, respect? All the money in the world will never replace these sacred things that the First Nation hold so dear. Something is very wrong here.

beautiful poem. nice to see people who are concerned about more than bombing other countries. but, i have to agree with joel. i work for an electrical contracting company who has been working frequently at several surrounding casinos, and they aren't exactly hurting for cash. they recently built a $17 million casino, and the first day it was open, it raked in $19 million. the first day! so you would think that they would do good to help their own. i won't deny that we swept in and pretty much left them with nothing. but, they seem to have a pretty good cash cow with the casinos, so why can't they help their own.
