empty chair
all alone it doesnt move,
cold oak wood, in the middle of the room.
ancient, antique,
sitting in your home.
never touched, dust all around.
innocent, cold, quiet with no sound.
it doesnt move, it dosesnt creak.
its calm, sensitive, meek.
you never can know its past,
how it was made, how long it will last.
youll never know because you woulednt care
about that lonely empty chair.
you dont know who cried sitting in it,
or who sat there quietly thinking in it.
what if a mother that lost her family cried there?
what if a mother read to her child there?
sitting by the window in that now empty chair,
you dont bother wondering what its past it had there.
motionless empty chair,
why in the world, would you care?
