Singing for the Crowd

Contributed by peg on Monday, 27th October 2003 @ 10:44:03 PM in AEST
Topic: FamilyPoems

I would be a singer standing on a stage
Singing songs I learned from Miss Patty Paige
The band would be big, a Glen Miller sound
We would tour the world goin' round and round
Those were the dreams of a young school girl
The thoughts of this in my mind did whirl
Well I sang for a crowd but a much smaller size
The faces that watched me held six pairs of eyes
The crowd would cheer then I finished my tune
Then they would beg, "just one more, maybe two
Don't stop Mama sing Grandfather's clock
No, cryed the big girls, can't you sing a little rock"?
Life would have been different if my dreams had come true
And I'd spent my life singing ballads and blues
I'd never have known the sight of those faces
No sweet little girl kisses and warm embraces
I couldn't see ahead to what was meant to be
Thank you God for not listening to me.

I didn't cry this time. All the same, just as beautiful to me. I'm proud to be one of the six pairs of eyes! You are wonderful mom. Robbie
