I can't even touch you.

Contributed by Yodo on Friday, 24th October 2003 @ 12:22:49 AM in AEST
Topic: Grief

It's been a year ago.
I can't believe I'm going back.
Back into your home.
Back into your home.

It's been years since I've been there,
Been years since I walked through that door.
It's been a year.
Been a year.

I can't touch you
And I can't see you
And I can't hold your hand.
I can't kiss you
And I can't hug you
And I can't hold your hand.

A mother of three
Only two were your own
A husband and father
A hardworking man
But now you both are under.

You're six feet under
You're dragging me down.
Dragging me down
Dragging me down twice as far.

I didn't think much about you.
I pushed you far from my mind.
Both of you
Both of you
Both of you ARE on my mind.

I'm going back
Finally back
I'll see your home once again.
It's been so long.
Been so long.

But I can't touch you
And I can't see you
I can't even hold your hand.
I can't kiss you
And I can't hug you
I can't even hold your hand.

I miss you so much
I miss you both
But I can't talk to the dead.
I only pray
You found your way
Into my Savior's hand.

It's been years ago
I can't believe I'm going back
One last time.
I'm going back one final time
I wish you were there.

This is the revised edition.

My great grandfather died about three years ago because of old age. My great grandmother moved from their house in West Virginia, to my grandparrents house here in Indiana. We never went back to their house untill now.
It's being sold, so we're taking out all their old stuff. I'm going back to help move furniture and the like. I haven't been there and years, and as far as I know, no one has touched the place in that long.
My great grandfather was a miner in his day. He was a great old guy, but I guess I was just too young to apreciate him for who he really was. He died when I was thirteen or fourteen. My great grandma died just last year.

I think the repitition made this heartwrenching...and the words made it all flow like a small simmering stream right into my heart of understanding.A job well done!
Angel always...godspeed...joni
