Fairytale Lost

Contributed by MisterRight on Wednesday, 21st August 2002 @ 09:27:57 AM in AEST
Topic: LostLove

I never believed in fairytales
Didn’t think they could come true
But all that disbelief vanished
The day that I met you

I thought our fairytale had started
How beautiful my princess looked
I heard voices saying “Once upon a time…”
At that moment I was hooked

But this fairytale was different
It didn’t sound like the rest
I tried so hard to make it work
I tried my very best

I wanted to take you to never never land
To show you we could fly
You my Wendy, I your Peter Pan
You wouldn’t take my hand, I’m not sure why

I tried to slay your dragons
To be your hero true
But these dragons, more powerful than I
Defeat them, I could not do

I kissed you like Snow White
But from that sleep you did not wake
And this lonely princes heart
Slowly began to break

I left a trail of breadcrumbs
Hoping you might follow
But you didn’t, you chose to stay
In this misery I wallow

I planted magic beans
Hoping to reach the sky
But as the beans began to grow
My beanstalk fell and died

You are my Cinderella
My fairytale come alive
I thought I could be your prince
To give you love that would survive

Or maybe you were my Rupunzle
Though you wouldn’t let down your hair
So I could save you from that tower
And the memories that locked you there

A prince without his princess
Like the sun without the rain
How would I appreciate happiness
Without first feeling the pain

Now I say to you darling princess
With my heart becoming blue
Though we live this “Fairytale Lost”
I’ll always be in love with you

I beg of you sweet princess
If you ever meet peril again
Call upon your knight in armor
He’ll love you till his end

So I ride back to my castle
A dungeon of cold stone and slate
With memories of my princess
And times that were so great

And though this prince must leave you now
The hope will always remain
That one day you’ll come save him
From his cold dark dungeon of pain

So this “Once Upon A Time”
Doesn’t end the usual way
“They lived happily ever after”
Is what the last line should say

Now the story’s over
It was told at such great cost
And all we’re left with are memories
Memories of a “Fairytale Lost”

But before this knight moves on
To disappear into the mist
He turns to his beautiful princess
And asks for one last kiss

Curtis,
This is definitely one of my favorites. It is beautiful and sincere and heartfelt. Also an ending to a part of your life that you didn't want to end but you knew it had to. Things are sometimes too good to be true and after they are over you look back and realize they were never as good as you thought they were in the first place. Be well
