You came by to see me today,
And in my heart I felt that same old ache.
You talked about your newest conquest
And I felt my soul rebel in protest.
But it would be pointless to let you know
Now that I have let you go,
Now that I've promised to just be a friend,
To care, but no more, until the end.
Yet I still want you to hold me close in the night
As you softly tell me we'll be just fine.
My soul rebels at feeling this alone,
But I know now though that you'll never come home.

| Great peom! It's unbeleavable that at one time or another we all go through this, yet we all have to go through it alone. And it's hardest to be considered "just" a friend. Great write! |
