For the Little Girl You'll Never Know

Contributed by ginsdance on Tuesday, 21st October 2003 @ 12:28:28 AM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

I've always remembered wondering why
I didn't matter that much to you,
You always just looked past me,
You had better things to do.
There was another game on TV,
A friend you had to call,
And now the years have slipped away,
You don't know me at all.
We try to have conversation,
You try to understand,
But because you always ignored me,
I'll never understand the man.
I can see you as a father,
Though you were never really there,
But did you see yourself here when I was born,
Completley unprepared?
You're giving me away today,
I know you don't know what to say,
To the daughter that you never knew,
And now I'm gone today.
You could try to comprehend it,
But it was your mistake,
I grew up without you,
Take a look, I'm a woman now, and you're so late.
I forgave you a long time ago,
But I don't think you forgave yourself,
Look at me now Daddy,
I did ok, fending for myself.
I wish you could know me,
Know the thoughts running through my mind,
I hate to think that somehow
I'm leaving you behind.
But you never really knew me,
And you never really cared,
You missed all the vital moments,
And I had so much to share.
Here's your last chance Daddy,
Be the man you must,
Walk me down the aisle now,
Show me that you trust
Me,
The person I've become,
Regardless of the making,
The growing has been done.
One tear for the road now Daddy,
It's time to let go,
Hopefully you'll know me in the future,
Cry for the little girl you'll never know.

Oh Ginsdance, how very touching was your poem for me. You see my father never took time to know me. But I learned later, that what is important to fathers they will see.....so don't be too disappointed if he never will be!. Some father's are just built like that, they may give you away, but they never had you anyway.
I went to your site, and I love your beautiful poetry. You are a beautiful talent, please never stop sharing your gift with you & me.And I thank you so much for commenting on my funny little ditty, growing old is easier if you're a bit witty!
I wish you so much happiness, my dear. Stay on the site where you will be near, and share some more of your wonderful ware!

It is amazing how much a father who watches from the sidelines really does know and feel...I have watched my husband who did not know what to say or do with our children...He was the one to cry when my daughter graduated..but he never had an idea what to say or how to show he cared...now that they are adults he is bonding with them and showing them the love he should have shown years ago..but just was clueless as to what to do.

Thankyou so very much for this write. My father is never here for me either, I know he just finds it hard to speak with me and understand me, and I have tried to make it easier, but I guess that's just not the sort of relationship we are meant to have. Every father and daughter relationship is different, but the main thing is that, he will always love you, and no matter what, he will always be here for you, in one way or another. congratulations on your marriage, I am sure that your father will be very proud of you.

oh sweety.........first of all......congratulations on finding the person you want to spend your life with.........and daddy will come around......so many time they forget what it's like to be a kid........and you're a girl so that's even harder.........make a promise to yourself that you will teach your lifemate how to be a great parent.....not by showing him the things he should be doing.........but by telling him about the things not to do..........there comes a point and time where the child has to become the teacher........you did an awesome job.........write this on parchment.....burn the edges........and give to daddy as a gift..........if he doesn't understand with compassion then.........then you'll know you've done your best.........great peace and light to you.....especially on your special day!!!!!
