night without stars

i remember
crisp cool nights
when you and i
were cloaked
in silver light
spangled vault of sky
was the only witness
to an avalanche
of sweet soft touches
tonight
our air is filled
only with
swirling motes of dust;
cloud-shrouded sky
threatens
somber weather ahead
we walk together
in flowing darkness,
faces
obscured
the distance between us
feels like
the void
between stars;
the space between
tonight
and fondly remembered
gossamer evenings
feels like
silent
cold
forever
